A Brief Postseason Journey Of Los Angeles Dodgers
The Los Angeles Dodgers moved from Brooklyn to LA in 1958. Since then, they have won 14 titles including five World Championships and nine National League Pennants. Their postseason history has been quite exciting. Come along as we examine the different postseasons.
In 1959, the team won the National League Pennant during the 2nd season. The Los Angeles Dodgers then proceeded to the World Series where they played against the Chicago White Sox both at home and overseas six times. The Los Angeles Dodgers won the World Championship that season by beating the White Sox 9-3 in the 6th game.
Los Angeles Dodgers played in the World Series and won the National League Pennant throughout the 1963 season. And then they proceeded to beat the New York Yankees to win the World Series with Sandy Koufax names as the Most Valuable Player.
In 1965, the LA Dodgers were able to secure the national league pennant that helped them proceed to the World Series. During the World Series, the team played against the Minnesota Twins and emerged as winners courtesy of Sandy Koufax. It was in this World Series that they won 3 times after they moved to LA.
In 1966, they won the national league Pennants after which they proceeded to the World Series. They were walloped by the Baltimore Orioles and couldn’t win the title this time.
In 1974, after such a long spell, the team won the National League Western Division Title which allowed them to move on to play at the Championship series. In here they played against the Pittsburgh Pirates and won all four games and eventually moved on to the World Series after obtaining the pennant. But they were beaten by the two-time defending champion Oakland Athletics.
In 1977, the LA Dodgers won the Division Title to proceed to the championship series. In the championships, they played against the Philadelphia Phillies and won. They went on face the Yankees in the World Series and were beaten.
In 1978, they won the divisions, faced the Phillies in the championships and beat them again. In the World Series, they lost to the Yankees again.
In 1981, the team beat Houston Astros and in the Division, they also beat the Montreal Expos and secure the Pennants in the Championships, and went ahead to beat the New York Yankees in the World Series.
In 1983, the Los Angeles Dodger’s team faced the Phillies in the Championships who beat them hands down.
In 1985, the Los Angeles Dodgers won the Divisions, played against the St. Louis Cardinals and were beaten.
In 1988, The Los Angeles Dodgers won the second divisions in 4 years, played against the New York Mets and won. Then they proceeded to play the Oakland A’s again in the World Series and won the title that year. Orel Hershiser won the Most Valuable Player Award that year.
In 1995, the Los Angeles Dodgers were beaten by the Cincinnati Reds at the National League Divisional Playoffs.
But, in 1996, the team returned to the games as the National League Wild Card and were beaten soundly by the Atlanta Braves.
The Los Angeles Dodgers were beaten in the Divisional Playoffs in 2004 by the St. Louis Cardinals.
In 2006, they were beaten by the New York Mets after coming in as the winner of the National league Wild card.
In 2008, the team won the National League Western Division for beating the Chicago Cubs and for the first time in two decades, the team advanced to the Championship Series where they were beaten by the Phillies.
In 2009, the LA Dodgers had a very good season, making it all the way to the National League Championship series before being ousted by the Phillies. Actually the team has two budding young superstars in Matt Kemp and Andre Either and has a future staff ace in Clayton Kershaw. These admirable youngsters will be leaned upon heavily this season.
