The great golf players did not achieve their fame overnight. They also went through a lot in order to be good at the game of their choice. In order to excel, they have the right knowledge of the golf swing basics. Having the love golf is one thing but playing it is another. You have to dedicate time and effort in learning the golf swing drills to be the best golfer that you want yourself to be. So if you are planning to be good on golf, it is highly recommended that you have the knowledge about golf swing basics.

The rules in golf are fairly easy. The principles can be summed as being fair. In the official rule book of golf, it is stated that, "Play the ball as it lies, play the course as you find it, and if you cannot do either, do what is fair." This means that the ball must lie on the ground before you play it.

Practice the golf swing drills and you will go a long way. As you go along, you will develop techniques of your own, so for the meantime, you might want to stick first with the golf swing basics. Golf is not simply hitting a ball. There are many different ways of hitting depending on the distance of the ball to the hole.

Golf swing basics involve knowing the amount of force that you will use to hit the ball in order to reach the target. What is the secret to driving the ball a long distance? Here are some golf swing basics that are helpful:

* Tee the ball higher. The ball must be strategically positioned at the instep of your leading foot. Hit the ball on the upswing.
* Assess the distance and determine the force that you will exert on your swing.
* If you think your swing speed is low, try using a flexible shaft.
* During backswings, angle your wrists. On downswings, change the angle of your wrists at the latest time possible.
* To achieve the maximum distance, twist shoulders 90 degrees.

There are also other areas of golf swing drills that you must consider. Be as well rounded as you can with the golf swing basics because these will serve as the foundation of your game. The following are golf swing basics that you must learn and consider:

* The swing plane is the path that your club travels whenever you make a swing. Having a good swing plane is one of the important factors in golf swing drills. When you practice your swing plane, you can try to use a laser so that you will be able to see the plane of your swing.
* The fastness of how you swing your club is called the swing speed. There are players who find it difficult to swing their clubs fast. Strength is important here is you want your ball to cover the distance that you want it to. Developing your strength on this golf swing basics is important.
* Always remember that you body must be in top shape. Exercise is important. If the muscles that you are going to use in golf are not trained, then, it will not function as well as you want it to. Regular exercise will add to your performance level.

In golf, there is always room for improvement. As long as you have the drive to learn and improve, you will no doubt succeed. Practice makes perfect. How do you think the great players became the great ones they are today? Golf is not a hard game at all. If you are a beginner in this sport, of course, it will take some time to learn everything including golf swing basics. But the thing is, you just have to take one step at a time and soon, playing golf will come out naturally.

Almost all sports require the participants to wear certain clothes and in this golf is no different. (...)

Almost all sports require the participants to wear certain clothes and in this golf is no different. To be sure you do not fall foul of these restrictions you will need to get the best type of clothing from a specialist store. Golf courses differ in many areas including their accepted dress code so make sure you are aware of this before you begin as it will help you enjoy the experience more. Some golf course will actually stop a player from enjoying a round of golf if he is considered inappropriately attired. This can be highly frustrating and leave you quite upset at the end of the day if you are stopped from playing golf simply because of a misunderstanding on appropriate clothing.

Several things about men and boys are unwelcome on the golf course. Men (and boys) are not permitted to wear shirts without collars or sleeves at any time. Another area that is a no-no is the use of running pants and shoes that have metal studs. Many people have fallen foul of the offensive clothing rule where the have an item of clothing that has an obnoxious or offensive logo on it. Additionally wearing jeans or sandals are not allowed, even for women.

The most proper men's attire on the golf course happens to be collared shirts, the right pair of pants or shorts and golf or athletic shoes. A pair of golf shoes when worn must only have the soft spike type and not metal owing to the lawn damage that is caused by them. Your shirts can either have long or short sleeves and there is no problem with turtlenecks or pullover sweaters. The trend in wearing trainer socks has not be taken up by the golfing fraternity so socks should be of regular length and preferably plain.

For women playing golf, fitting shirts and skirts and even Capri's are allowed. Generally, women are barred from wearing pants of any type including jeans shorts. The length of the skirt or short is important for women and they have to ensure that it is not more than 5 inches above the knee. However each golf course is guided by its own specific rules and guidelines in the matter. Women would also need to wear collared shirts unless they are sporting a pull over with a V-style neck.

Women golfers are allowed sleeveless shorts with collars or shirts with either long or short sleeves. Their socks must be ankle length with proper golf shoes (or sports) and if they wish a hat or visor if they prefer. Socks ought to be solid colored and should not have any objectionable logos or designs on them. Not to bring the club into disrepute and to be fair, the same rules apply to any guest you may take along for a round. If you are unsure about your clubs rules on dress, give them a quick call or check out their website before you go.

There are good golf tips and bad golf tips. (...)

There are good golf tips and bad golf tips. The question is, “how do you decide which golf tips to listen to?”

This question has been brought home to me recently because a good friend took up golf about two years ago. He has really caught the bug and plays several times a week. He also has lessons and practices frequently. Whenever we play together he is constantly asking for tips and advice about his swing.

It is my belief that you should only give a player a golf tip if you are sure that it will fit in with the rest of his swing. I have seen far too many players lose their swings when trying to adopt a golf tip which simply does not fit in with everything else that goes on when they swing the club.

OK, I know, there are certain golf tips which are universally sound, like, “keep your head still.” But equally there are plenty of other golf tips that can be ruinous even when given with the best of intentions.

In particular I recall a good player with whom I'd played many rounds who always drew the ball right to left, usually with good control. One day when his draw was a bit exaggerated, his partner suggested this perfectly sound golf tip: “You know, if you were to keep your right elbow well tucked in on the downswing you would lose that nasty hook.”

The suggestion was well meant. However, for a player who had a well grooved habit of swinging slightly over the top of the ball, as Arnold Palmer was wont to do, it proved to be one golf tip too much. He became so conscious of his right elbow that it threw the whole of the rest of his swing out of shape and it took him months to get it back again.

The point is that the golf tip didn't fit in with the rest of his swing.

This is a mistake that many golfers make. They listen to all the golf tips out there and try to adopt them all in their desperate search for a good swing. It is my belief that your aim should be to groove a golf swing that will give you streams of straight and long golf shots by modelling your swing on one set of advice. Then you should develop a mind movie of that swing so that you can reproduce it whenever you play a shot.

Think how long some of the most famous partnerships between players and their swing coaches have lasted. Think of Jack Nicklaus and Jack Grout, Tiger Woods and Butch Harmon, Nick Faldo and David Lead better to name but a few. All these great players relied on one coach's vision of their swing to keep their mind movie in shape. They did not go asking for golf tips from other players.

Do you have a favorite golf player? Is it Tiger Woods or Ernie Els? Have you ever thought that your swing looks like theirs? Woods and Els are two great golf players. (...)

Do you have a favorite golf player? Is it Tiger Woods or Ernie Els? Have you ever thought that your swing looks like theirs? Woods and Els are two great golf players. When you watch them play, you will definitely notice their graceful and powerful swings. Honestly, it is difficult to imitate that just by watching.

Having a good swing needs constant practice. Also, your body needs to be well tuned up for it to perform well. Here are some basic tips to help you improve your golf swing and may help you shoot in the 90s or even 80s.

1. Warm up. Just like any other game or sport, golf players need a little warming up before starting a round. This is what most players, especially amateurs, often take for granted.

It is best to come early at the golf course and take a few minutes to stretch those muscles and warm up. This will make your muscles "know" that they are in for something and that they should be prepared. Taking a few swings in the driving range will also help you get tuned up and perform better.

2. Exercise. This is really important, not only for golf. Constantly exercising your body and muscles will keep them toned and ready for any activity. This will also prevent common body aches and pains that you usually feel when playing golf.

Getting into the habit of exercising, especially tuning up your muscles will have a great impact on your swing. It will help you have a good stance and increase total balance and control on your swings.

3. Do not swing too hard yet. It is really tempting to give your swing that extra effort. However, it is not recommended unless you already have the control of your swing. The key to a powerful and graceful swing is the balance and control that you have, add to it the proper form and stance.

So how do you get to learn to control your swing? Again, it's tip number 2. Regular exercise will, in time, allow you to have a faster, more controlled swing.

Aside from these simple steps to do, it is also best to ask help from the pros, personally or thru online methods. They can give good advices as they already have learned a lot from their experiences. Keeping updated with the latest about golf will also help.

Also, most players tend to be so conscious in their desire to improve their swing that their minds are focused on every aspect of the swing itself; doing that will only make your swing look awkward. Instead, it is best to keep your mind off your swing. Try to focus on something else and the good swing will just follow.

Try to do these things when you play golf again. And do these regularly, then notice the change it will make on your next golf swing.
